Depression Treatment

Are You Struggling With A Lack Of Motivation And Energy?

  • Can you remember a time when handling your responsibilities was easy?

  • Do you have the desire to get back to that place, but feel like there is a huge wall in front of you preventing it from happening?

  • Have you lost your interest in the things that normally drive you?

If you’re suffering from depression, you might feel like you’re lacking direction in life. You’re struggling to keep up with your commitments at work, school, or home, and you’ve practically given up on your hobbies. Some days, you may feel desperately sad; but much of the time, you’re simply numb to the world.

Living With Depression Can Be Debilitating

Depression can influence every aspect of your life. Perhaps everything seems meaningless, and you’re just going through the motions. It may even be hard to keep in touch with your family and friends when you barely have the energy to get out of bed some days, let alone socialize.

Your mental and physical health are deeply connected, so you might notice your physical health declining as your depression symptoms worsen. For example, you may suffer from headaches, stomachaches, or insomnia.

Part of you might want to reach out for help. Yet your depression tells you that no one could possibly understand, so you continue grappling with your symptoms in silence.

But depression does not have to define your life. Through treatment, you can learn how to manage your depression symptoms, reconnect with your loved ones, and find a sense of purpose again.

You Are Not Alone - Depression Is Not An Abnormal Experience

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression. Depression is one of the ways that your mind and body can signal that something is not right with your life or circumstances.

Sadness is part of the human condition, and there are many experiences in life that can lead to depression, such as the loss of a loved one, learning that you or a loved one has a chronic or terminal medical condition, a miscarriage, a breakup, or a traumatic accident. If you don’t have the chance to process your feelings around events like these, your sadness, anger, and irritability can fester under the surface and affect your life in unexpected ways. Even a minor event can become the catalyst for emotions that have been swept under the rug.

A Lot Of Factors Can Contribute To Depression

Life stress, personal coping styles, previous experiences, mindset, lifestyle habits, and social and cultural factors can all influence an individual’s onset or experience of depression. In a nutshell, depression is a combination of mental, emotional, and physical symptoms that can be overwhelming. Depression is also a natural consequence of living in a very complicated world.

Be assured, you do not have to shoulder this overwhelming experience alone. Our therapists are well-versed in depression treatment and will guide you through practical solutions to break free from the grip of depression.

Depression Treatment Can Help You Find Joy Again

You might be nervous about reaching out to a therapist for the first time. But through counseling, you will have the chance to heal from depression and go on to live much healthier, fulfilling lives. At the Therapeutic and Wellness Solution Center, our team can help you identify the roots of your depression and take steps forward with treatment.

What To Expect In Depression Therapy Sessions

First, it is important that you are matched with a therapist who puts you at ease. Our team will ensure that you are connected with a therapist to whom you feel you can truly relate.

During your first few counseling sessions, your therapist will focus on resource-building and creating your overall treatment plan. This means that your therapist will aim to get an overall picture of what your daily life looks like. Together, you will spend some time exploring your relationships, your job or academic pursuits, your social life, daily self-care habits, and other responsibilities.

After that, you will begin discussing your specific goals for therapy. Your therapist will help you move towards these goals by working on emotional regulation strategies in sessions and through homework.

Treatment Approaches For Depression Therapy

Each counselor at our practice takes a different approach to clinical depression therapy. Some will apply techniques drawn from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for addressing the negative thought patterns that characterize depression. Others will use mindfulness to help you live in the present, and some will use a combination of evidence-based approaches to tailor their method exactly to your depression.

Once you are tuned in to your depressive triggers and emotional states, you will be better able to regulate your emotions, which will have a positive impact on your behavior. You will likely experience fewer crying spells and less irritability, conflict with others, and overwhelm as a result of these new daily practices.

We understand that when you have depression, it’s easy to slip into the belief that, no matter what you do, you’ll never feel happy again. By seeking professional help, though, you can finally start a new chapter and embrace the brighter days ahead. With support from a skilled therapist, you can learn how to process difficult events from your past in a healthy way, manage your symptoms to improve your mood, and get back to the hobbies and activities you love.

But You May Still Have Questions About Depression Treatment…

I am afraid of my thoughts, and I don’t want to tell my therapist.

The therapists at our practice understand the dark thoughts that many people with depression grapple with. You may be scared of yourself, or you may be hesitant to tell your therapist that you think about ending your life or hurting others. But just because a thought feels true, doesn’t mean it is true.

Your therapist will listen and offer an objective perspective and solutions for when dark thoughts are present. They can also teach you how to manage your scary thoughts and develop a healthier mindset. These thoughts are treatable! You don’t have to struggle with them by yourself.

I’m so depressed that I can’t make it to an in-person therapy session.

Our team of therapists can accommodate teletherapy/video therapy sessions through our secure platform and offer session times that work best with your schedule, such as in the evening, during a lunch break, or when you are feeling low.

Loss of motivation and lack of energy are common symptoms of depression. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are still working from home and have little reason to go out. But avoidance, isolation, and social withdrawal worsen depression symptoms. Therefore, your therapist may encourage you to come to the office to help break the cycle of depression.

Will I have to take medication to treat my depression?

Because we are a psychotherapy practice, we cannot prescribe medication directly to our clients. However, if you are curious about whether or not medication is the right choice for you, your therapist can provide you with more information or refer you to a psychiatrist. If you already take medication, your therapist will get in touch with your psychiatrist to account for your medication in your overall treatment plan.
