Kara McGinley is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has been working

in private practice since 2020. Kara received her Bachelor’s degree from University of

California, Santa Barbara and Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from

Azusa Pacific University.

Prior to receiving her Masters, Kara gained experience working as a Rehabilitation Specialist for a community mental health clinic and as a sexual assault survivor's advocate for Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center. Following graduate school, Kara furthered her experience by working with survivors of domestic violence.

Through this work Kara has found a passion in helping her clients navigate major life transitions and challenges. She specializes in working with young adults who are struggling to find their way in the world and need support as they transition into new life stages. One of the ways Kara is able to do this is by providing psychoeducation about healthy relationship dynamics while teaching tools on healthy boundary formation. Kara believes that a strong foundation of healthy communication and boundaries are crucial for maintaining positive relationships, and she works with clients to develop the skills they need to build and maintain healthy relationships with family, friends, and romantic partners.

Kara also has extensive experience working with both children and adults with ADD/ADHD. Kara understands the unique challenges that come with ADHD and works with clients to develop strategies for managing symptoms and achieving their goals for long term success.

Finally, Kara specializes in anger management and behavioral modification for children. She works with children to develop healthy coping strategies and skills for managing their emotions in a constructive way through stand-alone therapy sessions and also as a member of the Therapeutic and Behavioral Services team.

Kara’s approach to therapy is to use evidence-based practices (such as cognitive behavior therapy) paired with compassion and empathy to connect with a client's presenting challenge. She is the type of therapist that uses friendliness and humor to create a down-to-earth environment that helps clients feel at ease during their sessions. She believes that the dynamic between therapist and client is essential to the client's success in therapy. Kara collaborates with her clients to create short term and long-term goals that feel manageable and realistic.

Beginning the process of therapy can be one of the hardest parts of the journey, but Therapeutic and Wellness Solution Center hopes to make that transition go as smoothly as possible. If you are interested in working with Kara, please reach out to begin the process.
